Have You Acheived All That You Could?

I reflected tonight as I gazed out to sea

And the glow of the moon seemed to be questioning me.

‘When you look back on life, when all’s said and done,

What did you think that you might have become?’

‘Have you achieved…all that you could?

Or even a little of what you thought you would?’

‘Do you look in the mirror and like what you see?

Is the man that looks back what you want him to be?’

So I ponder my answers of where I am now

And I know that I might have done better somehow.

But I’ve done my best to be true to myself

And to be a man of my word above all else.

I’ve made my mistakes and carry them with me

And just like us all have regrets that you don’t see.

But I’ve tried to help all those that I could

To leave my stamp on the world and do some good.

I’ve learned to love the small things in life

Those things of beauty that pass us all by.

The veins on a leaf, the whisper of snow,

The moonlight on water where memories flow.

Amazing friends and a wife I adore

Are gifts I’ve been given and could wish for no more.

So have I achieved all that I could?

Well, I’m still trying and so far, so good.
