HUGE Lesson For Freelancers!
(Just because you CAN do the work, doesn’t mean you should)!
Let’s face it, the appeal of being a freelancer is that we get to work from home (or anywhere we like in some cases). We also, supposedly, get to choose our own hours (HA!) and even to choose the type and quantity of jobs we want to accept.
While the first of those benefits, the ability to work from home can be true, is it always really a benefit?
Well, if you are alone at home it might be OK. But if, like many freelancers, you have young kids at home, or partners that think because you are at home you are free to break for a coffee and a chat whenever they feel like it, then working from home may not actually feel like much of a benefit after a while.
But, freelancers get to at least choose the hours they work, right? Well, while it may appear that way at the outset, those joy stealing bastards called ‘deadlines’ soon dissuade us of the notion that it’s us that choose how long we will work in any give day!
When the above realities have intruded into our imagined working day world of ‘flowers and rainbows’, at this stage we console ourselves with the fact that at least we get to choose the type and quantity of jobs we are willing to accept.
